History
Superstition initially formed as a trio of Hirst, Robinson and Whistance after all three had been in the rock band Pie Dog, writing their own original material with Peter Mounsey on keyboards.

Hirst and Mounsey had played in Santana-influenced band Kanissa.

Robinson and Whistance had been performing with Ray Chapman’s Escorts.

Soon the Superstition trio added vocalist Jane Catlow to become the long term quartet’s line-up. They performed covers of current pop and rock songs as a working cabaret-function band. Alternate and additional members included Chris Fleming (Guitar/Vocals), Peter Lane (bass), and the group was sometimes augmented by (later) Cooldabeen Champion/State Sports Minister Ian Cover in his guise as “Garry Gimmick” – a comedic take on Glam Rock.

The group disbanded after Clive and Jane established a café opposite the Geelong Football Ground, David moved to Melbourne to study music and play with Melbourne musicians, and John continued to play drums with Geelong bands alongside his daytime teaching job at Belmont High school.
Support Gigs
Sonny Terry & Brownie McGhee (with Ian Cover as Garry Gimmick); backing band for various solo artists at the Geelong Football Club.
