The band evolved from ‘The Boys’, a trio comprising Bill, David and drummer Ian ‘Pip’ Sceney that formed in 1963.
David left ‘The Boys’ and was replaced by Barry Lynch on keyboards, and then returned to the fold and the group name was changed to The Cascades when they took the role of house band at Finnegan’s Restaurant, Ocean Grove. They also began playing at The Waurn Ponds Hotel.
Ian Sceney left the group at this time and Bobby Atkins took over on drums.
